Name: You could say he has a lot of names. Among them: The Illuminated Capstone, Caesar Cipher, Mr. Pyramid, and Bill.
Canon: Gravity Falls
Appearance:

He has two forms; the first is a tiny floating gold pyramid with a single eye, tiny arms and legs, and a little tophat, bowtie and a cane or magician's wand.
The second is a humanoid form, a man in a suit with a gold single-eyed pyramid for a head. His suits vary, but they always include a top hat, bowtie, gloves, and a cane or magician's wand.

Age: Unknown. He notes recalling as far back as 900 BCE, making him at least over 3000 years old.
Gender: Male
Abilites/Powers:
-Shifting between his two forms, the small floating pyramid and the pyramid-headed humanoid, at will. He always floats while in tiny pyramid form, and can still float in humanoid form.
-Hypnosis/possession/mind control. He can influence, hypnotize and control most humans; typically by having them look into the glowing 8-ball on his cane/wand or eye, though it's more difficult the more they have the strength or willpower to fight against it. Depending on the will of the human, it may even be as simple as casting a spell on them while he's near, or there may be some humans he can't control at all.
-While not exactly omniscience, he is "All-Seeing"; There are no secrets held by man he does not know. He can read the minds, thoughts and memories of humans, and while he doesn't know what will happen, he knows most of what already has throughout mankind's civilization.
-"Invisibility to normals." He will not be seen or noticed by most regular humans, even when he is close to them, unless he specifically makes it a point to drop the cloak and make himself known. Specially gifted humans or ones trained or experienced to sense the supernatural are more likely to see him. Usually when he has a human hypnotized or possessed, he will stay near them undetected in order to control them as directly as possible.
-Dream inception. He can enter the dreams of humans and twist them however he wishes. He can use this possibly as another means of hypnotizing someone, since through their dreams could be one method of influencing them.
-Essentially immortal. He has existed for a very long time, and will probably always continue to exist, so long as mankind holds secrets and conspiracies. He can't be killed either, though he does have red blood, just like a human, so it is most likely in his humanoid form he has all the functioning organs a human does, despite the fact he is a supernatural being that cannot die. In theory he could be completely disemboweled, but it would hardly affect him, since that isn't what keeps him alive, and everything would simply grow back. Plus, he can take off his own head with no trouble.
Backstory:
First, perhaps it's best to talk about Mr. Pyramid's history in the meta sense - As in, how exactly he became a creation of the entire Gravity Falls fandom.
Gravity Falls is a series focused around mysteries, conspiracies, secret codes, and the supernatural in the town of Gravity Falls, Oregon; think of it as something like if Twin Peaks and Regular Show had a baby. Anyway, the "inspiration" for Mr. Pyramid so to speak comes from this image, which appears for a split second at the end of the show's opening. It is a page from a mysterious book found by the show's protagonist, Dipper Pines, which details many of the town's supernatural elements, as well as other secrets and conspiracies. It is as of yet unknown who wrote the book, but there appears to be multiple volumes, and Dipper is in possession of Volume 3, as evidenced by the number "3" on the book's cover. Another character, Gideon Gleeful, owns a similar book branded with the number "2", making his book Volume 2.
On the page from the image, a code is shown, "VWDQ LV QRW ZKDW KH VHHPV." Playing the show's opening theme backwards reveals a voice whispering the words "Three letters back." It is a basic Caesar cipher code, and decoded, it reads "STAN IS NOT WHAT HE SEEMS" (Stan is Dipper's great uncle). Similar codes are found during the end of credits of each episode, so far in either Caesar cipher or Atbash cipher. The site themysteryofgravityfalls.com is useful in coding/decoding messages with the show's method(s), and it also lists all of the secret codes in the series thus far.
Fan artists on Tumblr began depicting the dapper pyramid from the image as an actual character, in either the original form as a tiny floating pyramid, or as a one-eyed pyramid-headed humanoid in a suit(and many Silent Hill jokes were made). He came to be called "Triangle Guy" or "Mr. Pyramid" by Fallers (the Tumblr Gravity Falls fandom), the latter being more common. The name "Caesar Cipher", or just "Cipher" for short, after the code itself, is also sometimes used. Very popularly, he is often shown hypnotizing or possessing Dipper, his sister Mabel, or other characters from the show. In personality, Mr. Pyramid is typically depicted as an enigmatic, cheerful and gentlemanly supernatural being, but also a mischievous and manipulative trickster with questionable morality. Some portrayals lean him more towards evil, while others towards good, the latter sometimes as a helpful spirit bound to Dipper's book. Overall, he is open to many different interpretations, but with a design and usually several personality elements remaining across the board.
A similar example to a "character" also with his situation of development-by-fandom might be Derpy Hooves/Ditzy Doo in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, before she had a speaking role in the series.
Now, onto Mr. Pyramid's actual origin in the world of Gravity Falls itself...
(Be aware this is my own personal interpretation or "headcanon", and with Gravity Falls still being a fairly new series, may change as the show develops and delves deeper into its plot. If so, this will probably be updated!)
It is unclear precisely when, or where, Mr. Pyramid began, though he recalls as far back as 900 BCE. Since he is All-Seeing, his drive for knowledge is instinctual, and this along with his more mysterious motivations have taken him across the world, where he has met and influenced various people and organizations... as exemplified by the ancient symbol of the Eye of Horus, the Eye of the World in Buddhism, the depictions of an eye inside a pyramid in Christianity, and of course the symbol which appears on the back of the United States dollar; all in his image.
However, being the sort of entity he is, time once mattered little to him. It wasn't until sometime before the invention of electricity that he notes beginning to pay far closer attention to the time around him. It's very possible and likely that he has been in Gravity Falls, or in its general vicinity, at least since that point.
One thing is for certain, though, and that is the secrets and conspiracies of mankind are what keep him alive and allow him to exist, and to continue to exist. Therefore, he is most likely in fact a being OF secrets; formed by the thought, will, and actions of humans, specifically, their conspiring and secrecy. It is possible he has always been since humankind first held secrets, conspired against one another, and created ciphers. However, he is not the only one of is kind, as there are similar beings in existence, such as a star-headed female of human psychic potential and inner mysticism (Atbash Affine, or "Ms. Star". Art by

For some reason, Gravity Falls, Oregon is a place in the human world that especially attracts mysteries and the paranormal. With supernatural beings and phenomena somehow strangely drawn here, it only seems fitting that here is where many hidden societies would also gather. One of these secret orders was, as you might have guessed, The Illuminati.
But The Illuminati of Gravity Falls were likely different from what you may think or know of the organization. In Latin, "Illuminati" means "The Enlightened", and that is what they are; people enlightened to the dark secrets and paranormal happenings of the world; those who knew of the existence of creatures considered only myth, and the cover-ups and classified information all of the governments don't want you to know. It was the mission of The Illuminati to seek out and uncover these truths for the betterment of mankind, by they themselves hiding within the shadows, protecting their knowledge, away from those who would wish to stop them.
And the idol of The Illuminati was Mr. Pyramid. He was their symbol and their guide, worshiped and feared by them as "The Eye That Sees All." As such, he was commonly depicted in the books and journals of the Illuminatus (members of The Illuminati).
It is unknown if The Illuminati are still present in Gravity Falls, or if Mr. Pyramid continues to be closely associated with them... but the journals written by a single Illuminatus, 8 volumes regarding the supernatural creatures and circumstances and shocking truths of the town itself, remain. Volume 3 is currently in the hands of Dipper Pines, and Volume 2 is owned by Gideon Gleeful. It is currently unknown where the other 6 volumes are located, and who if anyone possesses them.
Mr. Pyramid himself remains as well, silently observing the happenings of the town, and of the Pines family.
For now.
Personality:
Mr. Pyramid is highly enigmatic, but a whimsical, lively, cheerful, and upbeat gentleman who usually comes off as polite and personable, if rather capricious. However, he also happens to be exceptionally intelligent, cunning, tricky, conniving, manipulative, and dominating. He is thorough and complex, and always has a plan thought out to even the most minor of details. Even if you think you've somehow managed to get the edge over him, chances are you're actually falling right into his trap, or eating out of the palm of his hand.
Coinciding with his powers of hypnotism and possession, he is a master of mind games. He's a suave smooth talker who knows how to get into and mess with your head, as well as under your skin, and use this to his advantage. Full of charisma, charm, and sweet talk, even those with a strong resolve may easily find themselves under his spell, figuratively or literally, completely unable to resist. Most obviously, his strengths are in that he is very powerful. He is an ancient, basically immortal supernatural being who can, most of the time, easily manipulate humans and other less beings. It also helps he is charismatic, experienced, knowledgeable, and always has everything thought out to even the tiniest and most specific of aspects.
Though he is full of showmanship, he is just as careful, to make sure no one ever makes a fool out of him. Nonetheless, his biggest weaknesses are his pride and overconfidence. He lets his guard down when he's convinced he's already won, whether or not that may actually be true.
While difficult, it is definitely possible to trick him, the best way of doing so by letting him THINK he has everything completely under his control. It's when he doesn't feel as though he doesn't need to pay something as much attention, that's where the blind spot in the All-Seeing Eye can be found.
He often lacks empathy, sometimes appearing as though he considers humans to be lesser creatures... which to him, they technically are, but it doesn't particularly serve to make him look like he's on your side. He honestly likes humans and is fascinated with them, after all he literally would be nothing without them, but it also seems to be clear he doesn't mind using mankind as a means to an end either.
And just what those ends are is difficult to say. Puzzling and esoteric, he is truly an entity shrouded in mystery. Even with his jubilant and playful disposition on top of a devious and sly demeanor, he is still as cryptic and perplexing as an uncracked code.
Morality:
Ambiguous and questionable. It's extremely unclear what Mr. Pyramid's goals and motivations are, as well as what side he's on, if he's even on any side at all.
It's vague as to whether or not he was a positive force with The Illuminati, serving as a powerful ally to them and their cause... or he was their crafty puppetmaster, influencing and manipulating them to serve him and do as he wished. It's also unknown as to whether or not The Illuminati still reside in Gravity Falls, and if he is still connected with them.
Though his association at all with The Illuminati and their mission does perhaps provide a bit of a hint to what may be his potential desire; the continuing creation of secrets.
After all, secrets beget more secrets. Even the exploration and discovery of mysteries and conspiracies conceive new ones. The Illuminati sought to solve the puzzles of the world, and ultimately became one of the world's greatest secret societies themselves.
While this would appear to make sense with exactly the sort of creature he is, it's not entirely conclusive if this is actually his true intention, simply a possibility.
However, he does seem to mostly give the impression of neutrality; working towards his own agenda, whatever that is, by any means necessary. One thing is for certain - it's safe to assume his morality is as dubious and obscure as the rest of him.
